Green Turtle

             The green turtle is a subclass of sea turtle found throughout tropical and subtropical waters. Green turtles are one of the biggest documented sea turtles and the only herbivore of its species. This is highly beneficial for marine ecosystems because green turtles consume sea grass, which keeps the reef healthy and provides shelter for many other organisms such as fish. 

              Despite their economical importance, the green turtle is considered endangered due to the overharvesting of their eggs and accidental fishing accidents. Many times, these turtles will get caught in fishing nets or hooks off the coast and drown. With the uprise in the fishing trade, the green turtle population is drastically decreasing. Luckily, conservation advocates have convinced multiple fishing companies to incorporate sea turtle-safe fishing hook alternatives. By supporting companies aiming to conserve sea turtles and their safety, we can save the green turtles from extinction.
